We had a great Thanksgiving. My parents came to California to visit for the week. We had a blast. We toured (just a little bit of) San Francisco, drove over the Golden Gate Bridge, explored the Marin Headlands, and went to Montara Beach just a little north of Half Moon Bay.
This was only Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday we had a very nice chill morning prepping food for our feast. Our friends Mary Jane & Red joined us for dinner, and provided some hilarious dinner conversation.
My parents flew home on Friday afternoon. We were all sad they had to go, but we’ll be returning to Kansas to see them for Christmas in only 3 weeks! (woohoo!)
Well, from all of our adventures this past week (I guess not all, but the SF and beach adventures), I created a little video. Click through and check it out (Truett dancing, too)!
Christmas looks a little bit different for us this year…. Usually we go to my parents house and celebrate with my family. We enjoy watching our nieces and nephew rip open their gifts and shout with excitement. We soak up the time we have with the ones we love. We share lots of hugs and kisses and of course my sweet momma and sister always make such yummy food. It is such a precious time with our family!
Christmas day we drive to Topeka to see Matt’s parents. Christmas there is a lot different than it is with my family, but it is always equally wonderful! It is quiet accept for when you say coyote and the dog goes nuts… Matt’s mom is an amazing cook and we always have a huge meal (complete with a plate for Kramer the dog!). It is so nice and relaxing. We love spending time with his parents! I must say, I think I have the best in laws in the world!
This year, even though I’m not on bed rest anymore, we are home because we can’t travel that far. Matt left for work at 7:00 this morning, so I’ve been home alone all day. Honestly, it doesn’t feel like Christmas this year… Our tree is up, I’ve been playing Christmas music for weeks, I’ve done a little baking, our gifts are wrapped and under the tree, but without family it doesn’t have the same feel.
We are so blessed in so many ways, I hate that I even feel this way! Our families are so close and we get to see them so often and so many people don’t have that! I know we will celebrate with my family soon, and tonight Matt’s parents will be here, but somehow it isn’t the same. My heart aches so be able to see my sweet Josiah, Megan, and Emilee enjoying this special day. I want to hug my family so badly. I won’t even get to see my parents house all decorated for Christmas this year. I have never missed a Christmas with my family, and it is a lot harder than I thought it would be.
Instead of dwelling on these things I’m really trying to count our blessings. Matt and Truett are at the top of that list. I am so blessed with my amazing husband who has stuck with me through the good and the bad! I couldn’t have imagined how wonderful being married to him would be. I can’t wait to see him holding our sweet baby and start this new chapter in our lives. I am so thankful that our sonographer and doctor found the issue and they were so quick to take action. Our little Truett is a miracle in more than one way. I can’t wait to hold him and tell him how amazing his little life is. I’m also looking forward to next Christmas when things will be even less normal! We will have a little boy to take along with us on our adventures. What an amazing thing that will be. I can hardly wait!
