Father’s Day

It has been a long time since I have actually sat down and written a blog post… Life with a 2 year old boy is crazy busy and exhausting but so fun. I love this stage of Truett’s life, even on the days that are tough.

This little boy that has been entrusted to me has taught me so much about myself and how God views me. I understand more and more every day how even when I do dumb things how He can still love me. It still astounds me how much this little dude as teach me.

On a day where everyone is celebrating fathers, I am blessed to have not only to have the love of my heavenly Father, an incredible husband and father for our Truett, but also an amazing dad and father in law.

I could not have asked for a better daddy for my little boy. He is everything I could have ever hoped for. I love watching Matt and Truett play, learn, and explore together. They are two peas in a pod. I see so much of Matt in Truett, he is constantly trying to figure out how things work! He loves to “Help” daddy do things like water the flower, or clean up the yard, he wants to be just like daddy. He likes to pack his backpack and as he throws it over his shoulder, he says “Bye! I go work like Daddy!” They have such a special bond. Matt is always teaching him something… how to build a bigger tower, talking about letters and numbers, letting Truett try and use the screw driver when he is fixing something, but my favorite is when we pray together at night before bed. I love hearing Truett try and pray like daddy. He spends a lot of prayer time being thankful for things like Buzz Lightyear, Mickey Mouse, Chinese Noodles, and the pool, but those are the big things for him right now!

Thank you Matthew for being the best daddy Truett could ever have. I love watching you teach our little boy how to be an amazing man. Thank you for taking time for the little things and making each day special. We are both so blessed to have you. Thank you for working so hard to take care of us. We couldn’t ask for anything more.

I would also like to thank our “Poo-pa” for raising Matt to be the man he is. Without you he wouldn’t be who he is today. Thank you for teaching him how to be a great dad and how to take care of his family.

Sarah 46 Lastly I need to thank my daddy. The first man I ever loved, the man who taught that all I needed was to love Jesus and follow Him and everything else would fall into place. I love you so much and I am so thankful for all you have done for me. You are the best.

Post-Thanksgiving update

Hi All,
We had a great Thanksgiving. My parents came to California to visit for the week. We had a blast. We toured (just a little bit of) San Francisco, drove over the Golden Gate Bridge, explored the Marin Headlands, and went to Montara Beach just a little north of Half Moon Bay.

This was only Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday we had a very nice chill morning prepping food for our feast. Our friends Mary Jane & Red joined us for dinner, and provided some hilarious dinner conversation.

My parents flew home on Friday afternoon. We were all sad they had to go, but we’ll be returning to Kansas to see them for Christmas in only 3 weeks! (woohoo!)

Well, from all of our adventures this past week (I guess not all, but the SF and beach adventures), I created a little video. Click through and check it out (Truett dancing, too)!

A Doozy of a Day

Today was one of those days… you know the ones I’m talking about, the one where everything seems to go wrong….

Our sweet boy has been cutting his molars and they have all at least broken through the surface, and then he got a cold. He’s been all stuffy and having trouble sleeping.

It started at about 1:00am. He woke up really upset so I went in and snuggled him until he was back to sleep. He was up again at 3:00, and 5:00. At that point we just brought him to bed with us… which was a mistake… Try as he might, he could not get comfortable. There were feet everywhere in my ribs, in my face, in my knees… I’m not sure how someone so small can take up so much of our bed! He tried to sit on my head,  tried to lay crossways in the bed, the end came quickly when he tickled daddy. I took him back to his room about 6:45. He cried for a few seconds and then was quiet. I finally passed out and he started stirring about 8:30.

We got up and watched some cartoons and snuggled till he started body slamming me. I went to make him some breakfast. In the meantime he unloaded the bag of recycling that was sitting by the door to take out. While I cleaned that up, he threw all the clean laundry off the couch onto the floor. When I realized what he was doing I ran in to stop him and stepped on a bag of chips that he had taken from the cabinet and threw on the floor. As I stepped on the bag, it exploded and shot chips all over the living room. He was excited! Chips for breakfast!!!!!

I got him in his chair and fed him his real breakfast and when he finished I grabbed the vacuum to clean up the chip mess. This sent him into a tizzy. He cried sobbed and ran from me. The vacuum is terrifying unless he is the one using it.

We move on to play time in his room. Puzzles are the hit of the day. He plays for awhile and seems to be doing great. Then he starts unloading his toy box, and by unloading I meant tossing hurling toys across the room over his shoulders. Then He-man style he turns the toy box on its side and climbs on top. I sat and watched all of this in awe.

I text Matt asking if he is coming home early from work… He laughs. I get a text from the neighbor down the street. Her little girl Ally is destroying their house today too… maybe its something in the water? We decide to meet in her yard and let the monsters kids run till they drop.

We get there and both of them act completely normal… sharing toys sitting on the sidewalk eating snacks, giving hugs… We are dumbfounded. Truett comes home after playing with no tears… he usually gets really upset when we have to go inside.

He has lunch we get ready for nap and he throws a kicking screaming fit… Finally he calms down and falls asleep in my arms.  He took a great nap and when he woke up all he wanted to do was play with the vacuum… the same one that he was terrified of earlier. The rest of the afternoon he was in a pretty good mood, a bit more whiney than usual and still kind of wild but not horrible.

Fast forward to bedtime. He had his bath and I was getting his diaper ready. I go to reach for him as he starts peeing all over the floor the rug and his basketball. Cue a total meltdown because we won’t let him play with the ball that is covered in pee.  Daddy goes to get the rug cleaner while I’m mopping up the puddle with a towel. Grab my phone to take a quick picture because he was being cute and beeping daddy’s work badge on everything.

Then he squats and poops on the rug. That’s right my kid dropped a deuce in the middle of his bedroom floor. Before I realize what happened he stepped in that big ole turd and left a poop footprint on his rug. Daddy walks in and we both kinda freak out which makes Truett think he is in trouble. So he starts to run from us…stepping on the turd again and making more poop prints. Daddy catches the now sobbing boy and whisks him off to the shower while I sit on the floor and laugh.

It’s now 11:00pm the mess has long been cleaned up and my baby is in bed. I am sitting here exhausted, but, even as I type this, I can’t help but laugh again. With everything that went wrong today I am still incredibly blessed to have such an amazing kid and husband. In spite of all the calamities that went on, I can’t imagine how I could love my boy any more.

Don’t get me wrong… There were moments today where I felt like a horrible mom, moments where I just wanted to crawl in bed, moments when I thought I was going to cry, but even in those moments, all I have to do is look at my crazy, handsome, super smart little boy. One smile from that blue eyed kid makes everything else seem so insignificant.

Tonight I’m thanking the Lord for blessing me with a wild and crazy boy whom I love with all my heart (even when he makes life insanely crazy interesting) and a sweet, caring, thoughtful husband who took us out to dinner no questions asked because he knew it was a rough day.

I mean really… who wouldn’t want to wake up and be greeted by this face???

Changes to our blog… again…

So there have been many things that have been swirling through my head lately. One of which is web safety. Now I will mention that it is extremely important to safeguard yourself on the web. There are certain things you can to to make sure you’re protected. One of the things that we had done to protect ourselves was to make sure that our blog was password protected. However, after some careful consideration, we have decided that it is no longer needed. Our goal with our blog is to share our life, and while that is easy with family and friends, it’s a little scary with the prospect of sharing with (potentially) the whole world. But alas, we have caved. Sarah and I have discussed and our blog is no longer password protected. We never post pictures of our Truett naked, and we know not to geotag our photos (I think I posted 1 on the entire blog from when we lived in Gardner). So welcome to our “open book”. Mostly we post pictures. (Check ’em out if you haven’t been to the site in a while). But on occasion I’ll get creative and edit a little video, and post that, too.

We miss you all who are catching our updates from the midwest, and hope that you can come visit (we have a guest room)

Hello again…

Hi everyone,
I know it’s been a very long time since you’ve heard from us via email. I’m sorry about that. Things have been just a little crazy. I’m finally sitting down to be able to type this out.

So life is very good on the “left coast” as my cuz Trevor puts it. I love my job. I love having weekends off, and spending some time with the most awesome wife and kiddo.

Since we’ve been here, we’ve gone to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, San Francisco twice, Half moon bay, and found some awesome eats around town. We also found a church that we really like. The people are very welcoming, and it’s fun to connect with them. We went to a small group just today and Truett made a new friend, Nathan!

We (Sarah) has been posting lots of pictures to the blog recently. We don’t send out email updates for these to the general group, because that would result in alot of people getting annoyed. We don’t want that. But we do want to offer it to those of you who would like to keep up with us, but don’t always frequent the blog every day. The new system provides that you can get an email whenever we post new pictures to the blog (the following morning at 7AM Pacific/9AM Central). This is strictly an opt-in email list, and you can opt-out whenever you like (there’s a link at the bottom of the emails). If you’d prefer to just visit to view the pictures, you can do so without logging in by going to the Media > Instagram section.

To opt-in for instagram, just fill out the form below:

It’s almost time… (But it’s already crazy time)

So… Our deadline is quickly catching up to us. We’re frantically getting everything together for the move. Granted, it’s been very nice NOT having to pack everything (since apple’s taking care of that).

But we’ve sold my car, got a few more things ready for MNU (Had a little paperwork that needed done), got the rental car, went to a work party, had a work going away party, met with our realtor, and Truett needs tube put in his ears… On Tuesday (please note we fly out on Wednesday).

With all that said, just wanted to keep everyone up to date. We’re leaving town on the 9th. We’ll have pretty pictures to show you, I’m sure.

More Posts, but not more emails

Hey everyone,
We realize that we don’t always get around to posting to the blog on a regular basis, but we do realize that you may want to see what’s going on in our lives. So, we’re changing a few things. We’re going to start posting more pictures to the blog. Sarah uses Instagram (A lovely picture sharing app) quite a bit and posts between 2-5 pictures a day with it. It’s a great way for me to see what my little guy is up to even if I’m at work. To view these pictures will not require a login (at least not for now). You will NOT receive an email from us every time one of us posts a picture.

Also, whenever we send out email updates, you will not be required to login to view the current post. To add a comment or view previous posts, however, will require logging in.

To sum it all up – More posts, easier access to said posts, and no login required if you click the link in your email. Pretty sweet, huh? (We think so)
